What’s Your Passion?

Hello All,
As always that’s for reading the blog and sharing your comments.

I’d like to start this entry with a quick story. Here it goes...I can recall being in elementary school during the early to mid 80’s and beginning to really enjoy math. Up to that point was I can recal being okay in math but was never motivated to go beyond what was really being taught in class until the 3rd grade. Third grade marked the time frame where we started getting into multiplication. It was not so much the multiplication but the weekly multiplication times tables tests.

For those who are not familiar with these exams, the way they work is you take a test with about 50 multiplication problems using the numbers 1-12. These tests were meant to help with learning multiplication only in the form of a game. A ribbon was given for successfully completing the exam in under 5, 4, 3, and 2 minutes while also getting them all correct. I really started to try to excel in all math during this point. I can recall the day of an exam and the butterflies in my stomach almost as if I was about to play in a basketball game. Then the feeling accomplishment when I passed each level. It was at that point that I developed a passion for mathematics.

To day I watched Avery inspirational story and speech by Inky Johnson a former Tennessee Volunteer football player and potential NFL draft pick. I say almost because he experienced a career ending injury. During his time playing football he goes on to say that football was his passion from age 7-20. After his injury he developed his true passion... public speaking. I can say that he is great at it...and it does take long to see and feel his passion.

How often do we switch lanes that quickly with respect to our passion?

I believe our passions in specific areas are directly connectly to the internal driving force. What I mean by this is ‘the why’. With me and multiplication I believe it was a way for me and classmates to have a healthy competition, but it also allowed me a way to be engaged. I am pretty quiet by nature and sometimes can get lost in the shuffle of things and only display a quiet engagement. I speak more but more so when needed or whenI am trying to help another person. I have a passion to speak more and present...as I have always had more to say and a ton of words within that are waiting to come out. I think this was a reason I wrote a book...but this only temporarily satisfies the internal passion.

What’s your passion?

Are you going to let you eat at you or chase that passion?

As always, thanks for reading my blog!
